AI HDRI generation from images or text

Image to HDRI and Skybox Generator

Start with a photo, concept image, or render and use AI to generate a 360° environment. The image to HDRI workflow exports a 2:1 panorama as PNG or Radiance HDR; the image to skybox workflow packages six cubemap faces for your engine. You can also generate from a text prompt.

From panorama to a rendered environment

Explore real library panoramas in 360°, then compare how the same image appears behind a scene and in reflective and matte materials.

This demonstration uses an LDR library image. It shows environment integration, not calibrated high-dynamic-range capture.

What to check The bright sun is encoded in an LDR image. Converting the file to HDR does not recover captured high-dynamic-range lighting.

What does the AI HDRI Generator produce?

Turn a reference image into a 360° environment with the PLAYTEX AI image to HDRI and image to skybox generator. Preview, then export PNG, HDR, or engine cubemap packs.

2:1Equirectangular panorama for environment-sphere workflows.
360°Rotate through the horizon and full wrap before export.
5 enginesUnity, Unreal Engine, Godot, Roblox, and Three.js packs with selectable square face sizes.

Output boundary: The generated environment is a creative lighting asset, not a calibrated real-world light probe. Validate exposure, color response, and reflection behavior in the target renderer.

Starter, Creator, and Studio include commercial-use rights, subject to the Terms and source rights. Free outputs are public and non-exclusive. Review ownership and use terms.

Tool workflow guide

How to turn an image into an HDRI or skybox

Choose Image mode and upload a reference photo, concept image, or render. Add optional details about the setting and lighting, generate the environment, then inspect the full panorama before export. AI generates the surrounding scene from your reference; it does not recover an exact 360° capture from a single photo.

Updated by PLAYTEX AI Editorial Team.

What changed

  • Added a precise output definition below the existing tool presentation.
  • Added target and face-size selection for engine-ready cubemap handoff.
  • Added target-specific face labels, manifests, setup scripts, and photometric calibration limits.

Upload a reference image

1

Select Image beside Text in the creation controls, then upload an image you have the right to use.

Generate and preview

2

Use Preserve look to guide the result toward your reference. Check the horizon, seam, and composition in the 360° viewer.

Image to HDRI

3

Download a 2:1 PNG panorama or a Radiance HDR compatibility file for environment-map workflows.

Image to skybox

4

Choose Export to engine for six named cubemap faces for Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, Roblox, or Three.js.

Decision table

SituationChooseWhy
The scene needs a new sky or lighting direction. Generate a skybox Create the panoramic environment from text or a visual reference.
The horizon or seam is uncertain. Use the 360° viewer Inspect orientation and wrap from inside the environment.
The target reads equirectangular maps. Export an image or HDR Use the 2:1 panorama directly, choosing an AI upscale only when you need the plan-allowed output: up to 8K on Creator or 16K on Studio.
The target requires six cubemap faces. Export to engine Choose the engine and square face size; PLAYTEX AI packages the named faces, manifest, and setup instructions.

Scope and limitations

Image to HDRI starts with an AI-generated LDR panorama. Radiance HDR export provides file compatibility; it does not recover the measured brightness range of a bracketed HDR photograph. Validate lighting and reflections in your renderer.
