Mesh and binding controls

These settings establish the real asset relationship.

  • Mesh Upload and Parse: Imports GLB, GLTF, FBX, or OBJ-style mesh assets and extracts stable material slot descriptors from mesh and material names. Use it at the start of every new asset and re-run when the source mesh, slot naming, or material assignment changes.
  • Material Version Selection: Assigns a specific material version to a given slot. Choose explicit versions when you need stable review and reproducibility instead of loose material names.
  • Slot Overrides: Stores per-slot tiling scale and rotation on top of the material version selection. Use overrides when one mesh slot needs the same material but different repeat density or orientation.
  • Save Bindings: Persists slot relationships so the mesh asset can be reloaded with the same logic later. Save after every clean review pass, not after half-finished experimentation.

Workspace review controls

These controls make the workspace useful for more than a simple mapping table.

  • Workspace Modes: Switches between View, Sculpt, Paint, Scatter, and Inspect perspectives in the full-screen mesh workspace. Use Inspect for binding review, Paint when mask/material-weight/biome-region blend decisions matter, and Sculpt or Scatter when reviewing procedural interaction states.
  • Show Me Why / Compare / History: Exposes explanation overlays, before-after comparison, undo/redo, snapshots, and recent workspace states. Use them when you need to justify a slot decision, compare procedural rule changes, or return to a previous review state.
  • Rule Presets and Slot Metrics: Uses metrics such as slope, altitude, moisture, curvature, and exposure with terrain, material, biome, scatter, and mesh-adapt rules. Use them when the preview feels wrong but the binding technically looks correct on paper, or when a slot needs protected rules and baked outputs.
  • Selection Mode and Slot Isolation: Changes how the preview responds to zone, mesh, instance, or rule-group selection and lets a chosen slot be isolated. Use isolation when a material issue is hidden by the full mesh and selection mode when the review target is not simply the whole object.

Step 1: Upload and parse the mesh

Start by importing a mesh and extracting its slot names. If the slot map is wrong, every binding decision after that will be noisy or brittle.

Step 2: Save the mesh asset, then load slot binding state

Once the mesh is known to the system, pull its binding state and available material versions into the workspace before editing.

Step 3: Assign materials slot by slot and review preview feedback

Bind each slot to a material version, then inspect the mesh preview, slot metrics, and why-mode explanations to see whether the logic fits the asset.

Step 4: Persist the bindings after review

The value of Asset Binder is not only the preview. It is the saved association between slots, materials, overrides, and project context.
