Seamless Texture Fixer
Keep the texture. Clean up the join. Inspect an existing texture in repeat, repair its edges, and export a PNG.
Check and repair an existing texture
A seamless texture fixer repairs the boundaries of an existing texture so opposite edges join when repeated. Upload a texture you already want to keep, inspect the repeat or offset view, adjust edge repair, then compare the result. PLAYTEX AI processes manual repairs in your browser; optional Astra auto-fix reviews small image previews through Kie and chooses settings for the same repair tools.
Open the interactive workspace to choose a PNG, JPG, or WebP between 64 and 8192 pixels per side, up to 40 MB. Manual repairs stay in your browser. Astra reviews and AI upscaling send images to Kie only when chosen.
Free exports: up to 512px after sign-in. Mapper: up to the original crop resolution. Starter+: paid AI upscaling up to this tool’s 8K output limit. Astra: one credit per check, up to three checks per session.
How to fix a texture that does not tile
Choose a useful source region
Open a PNG, JPG, or WebP, then drag the square crop or its corners. Start with a surface photographed straight on and with even lighting. Include complete bricks, planks, or motifs where possible. A smaller crop can avoid a distracting mark, but it also reduces the native export size. Your original image stays available throughout the edit.
Find the seam before changing it
Use 3×3 to look for a grid at the tile boundaries. Switch to Offset to bring opposite edges together in the center, where a break is easier to inspect. Use Before and After to compare the same view. Turn on Show joins if you need to distinguish a tile boundary from a line that already belongs to the material.
Make the smallest useful repair
Turn on Repair edges and choose a material style. Start with a narrow repair width, then increase strength only while the join is visible. Try a better crop or alignment before widening the blend across the whole pattern. Undo reverses an edit; Redo restores it. Optional Astra auto-fix can inspect candidates and choose settings for these same controls.
Inspect, export, and check again
Look at Single for fine detail and 5×5 for obvious repeated landmarks. Check both horizontal and vertical joins. Download a PNG at an allowed size; the final repair is rendered at that resolution. When adding it to a material, inspect the repeat at the actual tiling scale and viewing distance. A good small preview alone is not enough to judge a large surface.
Different materials need different repairs
These are starting points, not guaranteed presets. Compare the result at the scale you intend to use.
Stone, soil & concrete
Starting style: Organic.
Irregular surfaces usually tolerate a soft transition better than straight patterns. Start with Organic and a narrow repair band. If a dark pebble, crack, or stain repeats as a visible grid, move the crop to a quieter region. Matching the border cannot remove a landmark repeated inside every tile.
Brick & paving
Starting style: Structured → Geometric.
Look for complete rows and consistent mortar spacing before repairing. Use Structured first; compare Geometric when the pattern has strong regular lines. Straighten tilted courses with Align. A broad blend may hide the edge while doubling grout or blurring bricks, so inspect the offset cross as well as the wider wall.
Wood & directional grain
Starting style: Structured.
Keep grain flowing in the same direction across the join. A slight rotation or a different crop may help more than stronger blending. If the texture only needs to repeat along one axis, repair that pair of edges first. Check that knots and dark planks do not create a conspicuous repeating stripe.
Fabric & woven patterns
Starting style: Structured / Geometric.
Choose a crop that contains whole pattern repeats whenever possible. Structured is a useful starting point for textured weave; compare Geometric for a regular grid. Inspect Single after repair to make sure the threads remain clear. A perspective-distorted photograph may need preparation before its weave can align cleanly.
What still looks wrong?
Start with the visible symptom. More repair strength is not always the right fix.
A visible grid between tiles
Likely cause. Opposite edges differ in color, detail, or position.
Try this. Inspect Offset with Show joins enabled. Turn on repair for the affected axis. Start with a narrow width, then adjust strength while comparing Before and After.
Soft or blurry bands at the join
Likely cause. The repaired area is too broad or the blend fights the pattern.
Try this. Reduce repair width or strength. Compare Structured or Geometric for strong lines. Try a different crop before sacrificing more detail to the blend.
Broken bricks, planks, or weave
Likely cause. The crop cuts the pattern at incompatible positions.
Try this. Choose complete pattern units and straighten the source with Align. Check grout or grain through the offset cross. Edge color can match even when the structure does not.
Light and dark stripes across the repeat
Likely cause. Broad illumination changes are baked into the source.
Try this. Use Light to gently balance broad shading, then inspect the whole repeat. Keep correction low enough to preserve intentional material color. A strong cast shadow may need a better source image.
Edges match, but repetition is obvious
Likely cause. A distinctive knot, crack, stain, or large motif repeats inside each tile.
Try this. Use 5×5 to identify the landmark. Reposition the crop or choose a less distinctive source. Seam repair treats boundaries; it cannot make a small repeated image become an unlimited unique surface.
Seams appear after upscaling or in an engine
Likely cause. Upscaling can change borders; material sampling or mesh UVs can also expose a different problem.
Try this. Recheck the enlarged PNG in repeat. This page applies a final edge pass to its upscale exports. If the image tiles here but a line remains on a mesh, inspect the material’s wrap mode, filtering, UV layout, and related maps separately.
Export at the size your material needs
Native size follows the selected square crop. Upscaling is a separate, optional cloud action.
| Your plan | Available output | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Free | PNG up to 512px | Sign in to download. Smaller source crops stay at their native size; choosing 512px does not invent extra source detail. |
| Mapper | PNG up to your source crop size | Export at the selected crop’s original resolution, or choose a smaller available size. A 1024px crop exports up to 1024px without upscaling. |
| Starter and higher | Original size + paid 2× / 4× upscale | AI upscale options appear when the result fits within 8192px. The download menu shows the required credits before you start. An edge repair pass runs after upscaling. |
For example: a 2048px square image cropped to half its side length has a 1024px native tile. Mapper can export that 1024px tile; Free can export a reduced version up to 512px. Compare plans.
Hands-on controls. Optional Astra help.
Manual repair stays in your browser
Crop, alignment, lighting correction, repeat previews, and ordinary PNG rendering run locally. These edits use deterministic image processing and do not spend AI credits. Sign-in and export entitlement checks contact PLAYTEX AI, but a normal PNG export does not upload the image.
Astra reviews the actual repeat
When you choose Auto-fix, reduced source and repeat previews are sent through Kie. Astra can recommend the available repair settings, inspect the result, and compare it with earlier candidates. It keeps the best candidate it reviewed, including the original if a repair made the texture worse. A session has at most three checks at one credit each; it cannot promise a perfect seam for every source.
After the seam is fixed
Repair the source before building maps
Prepare the color texture first, then use the deterministic PBR Map Generator to derive material channels from that repaired source. This keeps the starting image consistent across the map stack. Cropping or realigning only the color image in an existing PBR set can leave its normal, height, and roughness maps out of register.
Test in the material that will use it
The PNG can be used as a repeating source in Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine, or another material workflow. This tool does not configure those applications. Set the intended repeat scale there and inspect the surface at its real viewing distance. Filtering, mipmaps, UV seams, and map orientation are separate from whether the image boundaries match.
Keep the original and compare deliberately
Use the same crop and preview layout when judging an edit. A matched-edge assessment is a diagnostic, not a visual quality guarantee: check fine detail, the center offset, and the wider repeat. Keep the original source so you can revise the crop or create a different material size later.
Texture seam repair, explained
Is the seamless texture fixer free?
Manual checking and repair are free. Sign in to export PNG files up to 512px. Mapper and higher can export up to the resolution of the selected source crop. Starter and higher can use paid 2× or 4× AI upscaling, where the output fits this tool’s 8192px limit. Astra reviews cost one credit each, up to three credits per auto-fix session.
Can I fix an AI-generated texture or one that was upscaled?
Yes. Upload the image you already have, including a texture created in another tool. Check it after upscaling: enlarged edges may no longer match. Upscale exports from this page run an additional edge repair pass before the PNG is downloaded.
Does a matched-edge score guarantee a seamless texture?
No. The edge assessment compares boundary changes with nearby changes inside the image. A low value helps diagnose the join, but blurred bands, interrupted bricks, or repeated landmarks may still be visible. Always inspect the repeated image as well as its edge assessment.
How does Astra auto-fix work?
Astra receives reduced image previews and the available repair settings. It evaluates the repeat, proposes an adjustment, and reviews the result. A session stops after at most three checks and keeps its best reviewed candidate. You can stop after the current check or undo the session. It cannot guarantee a perfect result for every image.
Are my textures uploaded?
Opening an image, inspecting the repeat, and manual repair run locally in your browser. Choosing Astra auto-fix sends small previews to Kie for analysis. Choosing AI upscaling sends the export source to the upscale service. Sign-in and export access checks contact PLAYTEX AI; ordinary PNG exports do not upload the image.
Will this fix UV seams or produce PBR maps?
This tool repairs the repeating image boundary. It does not change a mesh’s UV layout, tangent basis, or normal-map convention, and it does not build PBR channels. Once the color texture tiles well, use the deterministic PBR Map Generator to derive material maps. Editing only one image in an existing PBR set can break alignment with the other maps.
What image sizes and formats can I open?
Open PNG, JPG, or WebP files up to 40 MB, with each side between 64 and 8192 pixels. The workspace uses a square crop; rectangular uploads are not stretched into squares. Preview images are reduced for responsiveness, while ordinary final exports are processed again at the selected output resolution.
What is the difference between seamless and tileable?
Both terms usually describe an image whose opposite edges connect when repeated. That does not mean the repetition is invisible. A tile can have clean edges and still show a repeated knot or stain. Check boundary continuity in Offset and pattern repetition in 5×5.
Can I make a texture repeat in only one direction?
Yes. In Seams, choose Left ↔ right, Top ↔ bottom, or both. Use only the direction your material needs, then inspect the repeat. This is useful for directional grain or strips where preserving the other pair of edges matters more than repeating in both directions.
Does this replace the AI Texture Generator or Image to Texture?
No. Use this fixer when you already have a texture you want to keep and need to improve its tiling. Use AI Texture Generator to create source imagery from a prompt, or Image to Texture to extract or reinterpret a surface from a reference. Use PBR Map Generator to derive material channels after preparing the source.
The right tool for the next step
AI Texture Generator — Create a new texture from a prompt.
Image to Texture — Extract or reinterpret a surface from a reference photo.
PBR Map Generator — Derive material maps from a prepared source image.
